Smugglers Inn Voyage 3 Track Info

The first side is devoted strictly to the UK Midlands and starts with the urgent ‘Mental By Rights’ by Nottingham outsider Cyclonix which shows the often introspective producers dark and urban side. Staggered and cut up rhythms collide in a future techno cut which piqued the interest of dubstep pioneer Pinch, who cut a dubplate of it to feature in his sets.

Super underground Leicester artist Jimi Oh has a stockpile of hot unreleased music so I am very glad to get Red Cow finally onto vinyl many years after it’s inception. Funky, melodic, thoughtful and supremely danceable, it’s a glorious journey through the mind of a true auteur.

‘Open House’ a stunning big room positive banger from legendary broken techno producer Nubian Mindz. Rolling drums and uplifting synths combine with a little injection of hardcore in there too. Definitely the most ‘big room’ track on the EP but still with enough soul to warm the sourest of hearts.

Tommy Rawson follows up his recent releases on Local Talk and In Beat-ween with ‘Piano Pleasure’ a beautifully sculpted late night soulful tropical house workout. The title says it’s all as it’s a purely pleasurable experience with shades of vintage Osulande in there for the eagle eared listener.
